Ken is a lifelong student of martial arts since 1974. He started learning Judo and boxing at the YMCA in Somerset, KY. He trained in Shaolin Kung Fu & Tai Chi in his teenage years, and obtained the rank of 1st degree Black Belt when he was 17 years old. In 1982 Ken enlisted in the US ARMY, where he learned hand to hand combat in basic training. While stationed in Germany he obtained the rank of Black Belt in Korean Hapkido that was offered on base. Ken trained in American Martial Arts under Scott O’Brien and obtained the rank of 3rd degree Black Belt. While serving as a Police Officer with the Erlanger Kentucky Police Department and Dayton Kentucky Police Department Ken was certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, and taught pressure point control tactics and ground avoidance ground escape. Ken is the co-founder of Sessen Close Combat and the Founder of Close Combat Fighting Greater Cincinnati Systema. Ken has been training in Systema for 7 years. He became an Instructor in 2016 at HQ in Canada under Vladimir Vasiliev. Ken has relocated to Phoenix, Arizona and is currently the Owner and Head Instructor at AZ Close Combat.
